ABOUT OUR GUIDES

We invite you to watch this video to meet your Guides for the INSPIRED Course

Lissa trained as an OB/GYN and practiced strictly conventional evidence-based medicine before moral injury and the resulting mental health crisis caused her to quit her job in 2007. Since then, she has spent the rest of her career studying radical remission, trying to understand what really makes people sick and what really helps them achieve optimal health outcomes. She has obsessively researched everything she didn’t learn in her medical training, not just the science-based objective factors of healing but also the hard-to-study subjective aspects of healing, like love, the therapeutic relationship, or the consciousness of the patient and healer. Since retiring from clinical medicine, she has been training physicians and therapists about what she’s learned at the Whole Health Medicine Institute. She has published 7 books, including the New York Times bestseller Mind Over Medicine and its sequel Sacred Medicine. She has also given four TEDx talks and starred in two National Public Television specials, as well as founding the health-equity-focused trauma healing for medical conditions non-profit Heal at Last.

Over the course of my career, I’ve collaborated with hundreds of people in the mind-body medicine, traumatology, and spiritual healing world. But my integrity, my passion for anti-racism, my belief in public health, my expertise in trauma, my commitment to a non-bypassing spirituality, and my broken heart forced me to break ties with most of my former collaborators during the pandemic. Jeff, Shiloh, and Jonathan were three of the few I still feel excited to ethically collaborate. Because we’re both doctors with an interest in spirituality, Jeff’s research on “health outliers” and the Olympians of healing and his seminary background overlaps seamlessly with my work. Jeff and I both share a passion for social justice causes, grounded, ethical, evidence-based hope, spirituality without bypassing trauma healing, and compliance with public health guidelines. Much of the same is true for Shiloh and Jonathan, who have been my moral compass throughout the shakedowns of 2020 and beyond. Not one other person in my professional world tracks with my integrity in the realms of healing, spirituality, and social justice like Shiloh does. And nobody nourishes my body and touches my heart quite like Jonathan.

Jeff has spent the last 26 years as a professor at Harvard Medical School and as medical director of McLean SE and Community Affairs at McLean Hospital in Boston. During a number of years during that time, he was also the Chief of Behavioral Medicine at Good Samaritan Medical Center, also near Boston. During this time, he spent seventeen years gathering medical evidence for the “Olympians” of health: those with medical evidence for remarkable healings. In 2020, just as the pandemic took hold and paralyzed the entire world, his best-selling book, CURED: Strengthen Your Immune System and Heal Your Life, was released. Jeff felt called to bring our awareness to something almost miraculous that he was able to repeatedly document in those he studied, and that represents a sharp contrast to what he was seeing clinically in both medical and psychiatric hospitals. What are the common denominators in spontaneous remission? To what degree are they applicable to those among the 85-90 percent of those suffering from chronic illnesses and the main killers, including heart disease, lung disease, cancer, diabetes, and auto-immune illness?

Jeff brings the stories, science, and solutions associated with his journey of inquiry and discovery, as well as his journey into the healing of childhood abuse and his efforts to bring the best of traditional medicine into contact with the frontiers of deep healing, The pathways of healing we will share are aligned with the four pillars discussed in Cured.

Working with Jonathan, Shiloh, and Lissa while we were making the videos was a profound pleasure and a great way to communicate material of the utmost importance for those who want to heal at the deepest levels.

Shiloh has been working in the field of self-healing for 30 years. Her focus has been research with tens of thousands of people to discover the link between creativity, consciousness, and how we can influence healing through intention. Shiloh is an artist, author, and healer whose work has been used in working in hospitals, universities, prisons, schools, families, and the United Nations. What she discovered is that because trauma happens everywhere in the body, healing should too. The question was how to create a full-body experience of healing that could address the stored trauma. For the past ten years she has been developing a full-body approach she will share with us.

Shiloh will bring her proven process for illuminating the healing pathway. Inviting us to access our internal voice, and invite insight and intuition to the process. She will guide us in an easy experience to discern insight from within through activating our life force through self-expression.

I have been on a devoted path of healing all my life. As a child what I witnessed showed me the need for healing was great. I knew I was some kind of healer but I wasn’t sure what kind - eventually I found my way and now I teach thousands of people to heal using our approach through self-expression. Self-Expression has nothing to do with talent, and everything to do with activating the pathways of healing within.

I was so grateful when I proposed the idea of working together with my dear friends, Lissa and Jeff. I could see there was a direct and clear path of alignment between their work and ours as MUSEA, even though our field was totally different.

Jonathan is a Veteran who has seen active combat and has been studying his own healing since 1985. After being in the military as an Air Force Pararescueman, he spent the next two decades in the kitchen with a path as a Chef and Restaurant Owner. He soon discovered that his military experience was informing his kitchen experience: the intensity, the language, and the approach. By 2012, he had enough, saw the conflicts between health and the food we eat, and decided to pursue life as an Artist. As a poet, photographer, philosopher, winemaker, herbalist, and talented Chef, he would spend the next ten years of his life developing his craft.

Jonathan will bring his story of a near-death experience and what it meant to survive and transform his relationship with PTSD. He will also share with us a framework he developed for working with Change called the Cognitive Cascade. This process is innovative and powerful, and anyone can use it to create informed decision-making, break old patterns, and invite innovation from the inside out.

I have seen the worst of what humans can do and be. I knew I needed to be a part of the remedy. One of the ways I continue to serve is through providing food and nutrition and educating about it.

I love Jeff’s emphasis on nutrition from CURED, and I know that you literally are what you eat. So, nutrition is about chemistry and how your body uses that as the building blocks of health. Whole food and nutrition sets the stage for a path of healing that starts immediately and creates the conditions within which healing can occur."

A paradigm shift is a change in the underlying principles on which belief, understanding, attitude, practice, and policy are built one bite at a time.

"You have been told by others that what you eat, the way you eat, and the diet you have are healthy, not by your own essential wisdom. I recommend taking back your nutritional sovereignty and declaring your health is a matter for you to control, not a distant food chemist."
